We Will Not Be Erased Planning Meeting

  • The Brown Building 4133 Poplar St San Diego, CA 92105 (map)

The San Diego trans community has spoken: #WeWillNotBeErased. On the evening of Monday, October 22nd, a series of meetings led by local orgs, activists, youth, and politicians convened in response to the New York Times exposure of a memo from the Department of Health and Human Services that, if adopted, would change federal civil rights law to “define sex as either male or female, unchangeable, and determined by the genitals that a person is born with.” Additionally, “any dispute about one’s sex would have to be clarified using genetic testing.” The implications—which could affect health care access, workplace discrimination, legal documents, and even travel, for over a million people—are terrifying and unacceptable.

What emerged from the meetings is a community response spanning two days that will involve a rally, teach-in, and march. These events are intended to educate and mobilize allies, as well as amplify the voices of trans community members. The San Diego LGBTQ+ community stands united under the banner that trans lives matter, trans rights are human rights, and that trans identities WILL NOT be erased!

There are efforts mobilizing around San Diego to participate in planning the upcoming actions. Join us today, October 23rd at The Brown Building from 2–4pm to be a part of the conversation. If you are unable to attend, please email Jae at if you are interested in being part of the planning.

Accessibility: The Brown Building has accessible parking directly in front of the building and a bus stop directly across the street. The City Heights Circulator #965 can be picked up at the I-15 Transit Plaza at University Avenue. The building is wheelchair accessible.
